'Kalkometer' Mechanical Calculator c.1930's

Where: Teaneck Town-Wide Garage Sale
Paid: $1.oo !!

If you read my post about the Japanese Adding Machine a while back, I was very pleased to stumble upon this American specimen of similar ilk. It was complete with instruction booklet, metal stylus and carrying case. There wasn't much info other than this might be from the 1930's. Judging by the numerical font, that might be correct. In wonderful condition, just minor scratches on the faceplate where the stylus was dragged a little too much.  $1!!

It's handy, it's New!!

Vintage Swingline 113 'Strong Arm' and Red 'Cub' Staplers

Where: Lincoln Park, NJ Town-wide sale.
Paid: $3.25 total for both

I love vintage office gear. The Stapler collection is growing.....

This $3.oo 113 was dubbed "Strong Arm" for the big ol' bar across the top and uses heavy-duty staples to puncture through a nice stack of office work.

This (25¢) Cub was the mini-stapler offered from Swingline, and comes in a nice array of cool vintage colors. This one is a nice Fire-Engine Red.

Vintage Cast Iron Desk Lamp

Where: "Second Chance" Salvage shoppe, Bay St. Staten Island, NY
Paid: about $5

Ugly-as-heck Cast iron Desk Lamp, 1930's-40's. Dual Inkwells. Needs to be rewired. Nice patina, and with hard-to-come-by hood. The inkwells look like a spider face, a jumping spider to be more precise.

Wacky vintage Japanese Analog Calculator

Where: Salvation Army
Paid, about $1

Division was implemented on later models
Interesting calculator for the late 1960's made in Japan.  Use the brass stylus to drag down the toothed rails and count away.  Like an abacus, with numbers. Sure, adding is a cinch, good luck doing multiplication or any type of division on this.

Two wrongs make 93.315

Vintage humorous Giant Postcards

Where: Uncle Raul's in Jersey City
Paid: about 2 dollars for the pile

...about 40 humorous "King Size Gooney Cards" from the 1940's 1950's, where sending a postcard was a measly 4¢

Arrow 201 Stapler

I like old staplers. I like that they were made of the heavy feel of steel.  I like that these and other office supplies came in this drab Green and of course, chrome.....

This 1960's Stapler comes from good ol' Brooklyn, New York by the Arrow Fastener Company. The best thing anyone will say about this, and was the first thing I noticed, was the 3-way staple setting. Can be pivoted to set for closed, open, and 'temporary' stapling. This one is exceptionally clean, works, and still had old staples in it.
